About Abingdon4Education
Outlined below are just some of the ways the four schools work together to provide the very best in single sex and co-education:
- Abingdon School and Abingdon Preparatory School are part of the same Foundation providing independent education for boys from 4-18 years.
- Abingdon School and St Helen’s share some teaching in the sixth form, as well as all their sixth form drama, some music, debating and social activities. This combination provides a hint of a ‘co-educational’ feel to both sixth forms.
- The Manor and St Helen’s have strong historical links, being governed together until 1972. Today our ties remain firm, with a large number of the prep school’s girls making the easy transition to the senior school, next door, at the age of 11.
- The Manor and Abingdon Preparatory School also have a close relationship with a number of boys moving to Abingdon Preparatory after spending their early years at The Manor.
- The Head Teachers of the four schools meet on a regular basis to discuss and encourage a co-ordinated approach, and some shared Governors sit on more than one of the four schools’ Governing Bodies.
Other links simply reflect our shared ethos that a good school will provide a stimulating environment with high academic standards, alongside a broad and exciting range of opportunities outside the classroom, all supported by excellent pastoral care that can recognise and act upon the needs of each individual child.

On a practical note, the four schools liaise over term dates, making every effort to simplify arrangements for parents. Finally, but importantly, the undeniably busy social calendars of children of all ages means that friendships across the schools are ubiquitous. All four schools have a great number of families in common and joint social events are organised from time to time.
